Cynthia Ashby Pop Up — September 24–26

This Thursday through Saturday, we’re kicking off a very busy few weeks at Gaia with one of our longtime favorites: Cynthia Ashby. For three days, we’ll have a special collection of samples to shop, along with the opportunity to preorder winter colors, explore Cynthia’s hand-dyed knits, and revisit those wonderfully easy One Size pieces we return to again and again.

Cynthia’s story has always felt particularly at home at Gaia. A California native who made Chicago her creative home, she began designing clothing at just eleven years old and later studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her approach has remained wonderfully experimental: playing with fiber, dye, construction and shape until something distinctly Cynthia emerges. What began as a young designer selling to a handful of local boutiques has grown into a collection carried by independent stores across the U.S., Canada and Australia. And if you’ve worn her clothing, you understand why. There is color and texture, but also ease. Nothing feels too precious to actually live in.

This weekend is a chance to see a little more than what normally makes it onto our racks. Shop the samples, try the shapes, discover the hand-dyed knits, and preorder winter colors in the pieces you already know you love. Cynthia’s One Size favorites are especially good examples of what she does so well: interesting clothing that doesn’t require a lot of fuss. Put it on, add your own layers, and make it yours.

And this is only the beginning. We have a busy October ahead at Gaia, filled with visiting reps, trunk shows, shoes, art and plenty of reasons to stop in. We know this election season can feel especially noisy, and we’d love Gaia to offer a little escape from all of that—a place for beauty, creativity and community. Come see us. Stay awhile.
