April Mangum Returns to Pure Space Gallery — October 1–30

We are so happy to welcome April Mangum back to Pure Space Gallery for the month of October. From October 1–30, her work will fill the gallery with exactly the kind of energy we want to begin the season: expressive, joyful, colorful and very much alive.
April is a local artist, and that connection makes having her back particularly special for us. Her work has a looseness and vitality that feels immediate—there is movement in it, emotion in it, and a willingness to let color do some of the talking. We love the energy April brings with her, but we also love what happens when her paintings come into Gaia. Clothing, jewelry, texture, color and artwork begin talking to one another, and suddenly the gallery doesn’t feel like a separate room at all. It becomes part of the whole experience of being here.
And perhaps that’s a good way to begin October. Art doesn’t have to be complicated to matter. Sometimes you simply need to stand in front of something that makes you happy. Sometimes you need color. Sometimes you need to walk into a room, discover something unexpected and have a conversation with another human being about it. April’s paintings give us plenty of opportunities for all three.
Her exhibition also begins what is going to be a wonderfully busy October at Gaia. With April in Pure Space all month, Alicia and Bottega di Brunella joining us October 2, and our A.S.98 + Miz Mooz trunk show October 10, we have plenty of reasons for you to come see us. We know election season can make the outside world feel particularly loud. Consider Gaia a little place to escape it for a while. Come for the art. Come for the clothes. Come for the shoes. Or just come say hello. A little beauty and community sounds pretty good to us right now.
